I found “Ike” last year listed on Craigslist and I drove 2 hours to meet him. Well the next day I drove 2 hours back to pick him up. He is about 5 years old and is your typical high maintenance doberman but his drives are through the roof. Spent a couple days teaching him a few tricks so we thought we would share.
The training for the circles is actually pretty easy. Started off slowly having him follow the food reward to make the circle while giving the command “turn to your…”. Then marked the behavior with the word “yes” and paid the reward (high value hot dogs…although every food is high value to Ike).
Once we learned one direction we started working on the other. It’s pretty impressive but the cue for him on the direction to turn is actually the direction I swing my arm while giving him the command. But shhhhhhhhh don’t tell anyone because the kids all think he knows his right from his left.
